Born in the Saarland, Anke Schubert studied drama at the Drama Academy in Zurich. Numerous engagements followed, including at the Zurich Neumarkt Theatre and Schauspielhaus Zurich, as well as at theatres in Basel, Mainz, Darmstadt, Oberhausen, and at the Vienna Volkstheater. The early period of her career was artistically influenced by her collaboration with the director Andrea Breth in particular (The House of Bernarda Alba, 1985 Berliner Theatertreffen). From 1996 to 2006, she was a member of the Düsseldorf Schauspielhaus ensemble, where she worked regularly with Jürgen Gosch, among others (Sommergäste, 2004 Berliner Theatertreffen). Schubert has acted in productions including those of Wilfried Minks, Franz Xaver Kroetz and Anna Badora, and has worked with the director Burkhard C. Kosminski, whom she met in Düsseldorf, for almost 20 years. After several guest engagements at the Mannheim National Theatre, she joined the ensemble in 2009/10. Schubert transferred to the Schauspiel Stuttgart ensemble in 2018/19, at the beginning of Burkhard C. Kosminski's artistic directorship. Here, she has worked with directors including Elmar Goerden, Burkhard C. Kosminski and Calixto Bieito.
