We are continuously writing the story of Europe. In politically agitated times, theatre takes into account the European perspective more intensely and develops new artistic profiles and international discourse. Yet what does “European” actually mean in theatrical and dramatic contexts, particularly in times in which Europe is under close scrutiny and has to prove itself anew? How does one depict polyphonic Europe in texts and on stage? Is European dramatics defined by themes and contexts or by those who write and direct? These questions will be discussed by Barbara Engelhardt, artistic director of Theaters Le Maillon in Straßburg and member of the panel of judges for The European Drama Award, the director Oliver Frljić, as well as the sole judge for this year’s New Talent Award, Simon Stephens.
