Tobias Rehberger (*1966 in Esslingen am Neckar/DE) lives and works in Frankfurt am Main and
Berlin. He has been Professor of Fine Arts at the Städelschule Frankfurt since 2001. Merging art, design and architecture, Tobias Rehberger is a crossover artist. His artworks experiment with contemporary statuses of objects, space, commoditization and innovation. Despite all extravagance, humor and ambiguity of category, Rehberger’s work predominantly reflects his artistic identity.
Tobias Rehberger’s art is not exclusively intended for museums, it is also meant to happen in public space. He creates accessible environments, plays with expectations on fine arts and actively changes urban space. Rehberger’s art should be looked at and – most importantly – experienced.
Rehberger has had solo exhibitions at neugerriemschneider, Berlin; Schirn Kunsthalle, Frankfurt; MACRO Museum, Rome; Artelier Contemporary, Graz; Museum Dhondt-Dhaenens, Deurle; Museo nazionale delle arti del XXI secolo, Rome; Kunsthalle Mannheim; Kunstraum Innsbruck; Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam; Fondazione Prada, Milan; Tate Liverpool; Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofia, Madrid and Whitechapel Gallery, London; Rockbund Art Museum, Shanghai. Group exhibitions have included Whitechapel Gallery, London und The 9th Gwangju Biennale: „Roundtable“, Gwangju.
