Alen Sinkauz & Nenad Sinkauz
Alen Sinkauz (1978., Pula/Croatia) and Nenad Sinkauz (1980., Pula/Croatia) graduated in music philology and ethnomusicology in Padua, Italy. As composers and performers, they have participated in more than a hundred music, theatre, contemporary dance, multidisciplinary, radiophonic, sound art and film projects since 1995. Their artistic work, especially in live performances, is mostly focused on exploring unconventional musical forms, improvised and creative music. Through performance and composition, which are closely linked in their work, they are interested in a dialogue between acoustic and electronic instruments, the hybridity of combining musical and theatrical principles in performance as a research basis for new performance formats.
Among others, they composed the film music for the highly acclaimed feature film Zvizdan/The High Sun directed by Dalibor Matanić (Jury Prize Un certain regard at the Cannes Film Festival, 2015) and for the Croatian-Norwegian film Goran directed by Nevio Marasović (Golden Arena Award for Best Soundtrack 2017). They composed music for short animated and experimental films such as Technement by Branko Farac, Kako se kalio čelik / How steel was tempered by Igor Grubić and many others.
In 2002, the Sinkauz brothers formed the band East Rodeo, an international group of jazz and rock musicians combining avant-rock, electronic music, noise music and improvised music. As a band, East Rodeo has released 3 albums: Kolo (CD 2003), Dear Violence (CD Kapa Records/Trovarobato, 2009) and Morning Cluster (CD/LP 2011/2012). The album features internationally renowned musicians such as Marc Ribot, Greg Cohen and Warren Ellis. Together with the Croatian multimedia artist Ivan Marušić Klif and the sound designer Miroslav Piškulić, they are authors of the audiovisual project ...day of the year. In 2010 they started the international festival of experimental and improvised music in Pula called Audioart.
In 2022 they founded the experimental music label Kopaton records with the first vinyl release 4 Days with Alfonso Santimone. A trio called Roj Osa with Marco Quarantotto on drums is their latest musical project.
