Nicholas Kok

Nicholas Kok, studied at New College Oxford and the Royal College of Music in London. From 1996 to 2006 he was principal conductor of the East of England Orchestra (Sinfonia Viva), since 2007 he has been principal conductor of Psappha, the leading contemporary music ensemble in the North of England. At English National Opera Kok conducted productions including Monteverdi's L'Orfeo and Il ritorno d'Ulisse in patria, Purcell's The Fairy Queen, Mozart's Le nozze di Figaro, Così fan tutte as well as two world premieres by Mark-Anthony Turnage. With Opera North, Nicholas Kok conducted Dido and Aeneas, Les Noces, the original Italian version of Gluck's Orfeo ed Euridice and the world premiere of Simon Holt's The Nightingale's to blame. He also conducts various programmes at the Edinburgh International Festival.
Nicholas Kok worked with the Philharmonia and London Philharmonic Orchestras, the London Sinfonietta, the Hallé Orchestra, the Scottish Chamber Orchestra, the Rundfunk-Sinfonieorchester Berlin, the Orchestre Philharmonique de Strasbourg and the Münchner Kammerorchester, among others. Numerous radio and CD recordings accompany his activities. At the Stuttgart State Opera he conducted King Arthur, L'incoronazione di Poppea, L'italiana in Algeri, Hänsel and Gretel, Orpheus and Eurydice and Iphigenia in Aulis.
