Who are „the politicians“? A lot can be said about them – from praise to insult. Among all the projection surfaces offered by our society, the professional image of politicians is particularly well suited. They offer endless occasion for expectations, interpretations, discussions, emotions, wishes and disappointments in everything they supposedly cannot, must, should or even are allowed to do. But nobody can get past them or escape them. Because too much is at stake for us. At least that's what we think. And what are the politicians feeling themselves? Aren't they also very isolated and lonely up there in the control centre of power? You could call Die Politiker by Wolfram Lotz an absurdly funny piece of theatrical poetry with Dadaistically twisted observations, an associative stream of thought, a monologue by a lyrical self, a dialogue with an open ending or an ironic commentary on our times. The author himself, however, describes his text as a „soliloquy at an open window“.
Wolfram Lotz wrote his theatre text in 2019 – before the coronavirus pandemic, the war in Ukraine, Hamas' attack on Israel and Trump's re-election. And yet it has lost none of its topicality, quite the opposite. The ongoing preoccupation with our politicians is more compelling than ever; forcing this text onto the stage.
