Magdalena Schönfeld

Magdalena Schönfeld, born in Berlin in 1990, studied theatre studies at Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich and the Free University of Berlin. During her studies, she assisted at the Staatstheater Nürnberg and the Residenztheater München. This was followed by assistant directing positions at Theater Lübeck, the Nationaltheater Mannheim, and the Staatstheater Stuttgart, where she also created her own productions.
Since 2020, Magdalena Schönfeld has worked as a freelance director and served as resident director at ITZ Zimmertheater Tübingen during the 2023/24 and 2024/25 seasons.
Her work has taken her to the Landesbühne Niedersachsen Nord, the Nationaltheater Mannheim, the Landestheater Schwaben, the Staatstheater Stuttgart, the Landestheater Detmold, and the Theater Oberhausen.
Her productions are queer, feminist, musical, often featuring choral passages and shaped by a strong visual aesthetic and references to pop culture. Her current focus is on new drama. In 2025, her production Mother Animal (ITZ Zimmertheater Tübingen) by Leo Lorena Wyss was invited to the Autor*innentheatertage festival at the Deutsches Theater Berlin.
