Claudia Irro

Claudia Irro, born in Munich, works as a costume designer for theatre, music theatre, film, and digital formats. She studied costume design (M.A.) at the HAW Hamburg under Reinhard von der Thannen, and from 2009 worked as a costume assistant at Theater Basel, among other venues, and at the Munich Biennale for New Music Theatre. There she worked on productions by Christoph Marthaler and also assisted Oscar-nominated costume designer Bina Daigeler on film projects.
Since 2010 she has developed her own work in ongoing collaborations with directors including Pınar Karabulut, Alexander Eisenach, and Marie Bues. Engagements have taken her to numerous major theatres, including Deutsches Theater Berlin, Münchner Kammerspiele, Bayerisches Staatsschauspiel, Schauspiel Köln, Berliner Ensemble, Theater Basel, Neumarkt Theater Zürich, Schauspielhaus Graz, and Volkstheater München. She also works regularly in music theatre, with directors and artists including Axel Ranisch, David Herman, Georges Delnon, and the collective AGORA.
Alongside her work at civic and state theatres, Claudia Irro is involved in independently produced projects, art films, and digital formats. For her costume design for Richard III, directed by Pınar Karabulut at Schauspiel Köln, she was named best costume designer in the 2022 Theater heute critics' poll. Her ongoing collaboration with Alexander Eisenach continues most recently at Residenztheater München.
