Stephan Kaluza

Stephan Kaluza is a visual artist and author. Born in 1964, he studied art and art history before continuing his studies at the Faculty of Philosophy at Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf. From 2004 onwards, alongside painting, Kaluza increasingly worked with photography. In his “image plays,” he transforms his own theatre pieces and performances into simultaneously experienceable visual sequences. These interpretations of narrative have been exhibited at institutions including the Zendai Museum of Modern Art, the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, the Museum on the Seam, and Künstlerhaus Bethanien. Since 2006, Kaluza has also published his own plays. His novel 30 Keller appeared in 2014, followed by the essay collection Mechanik Sehnsucht: Kunsterzeugung und Betrachtung in 2019. In 2012, his play 3D premiered at Schauspiel Stuttgart, directed by Stephan Kimmig.
