Lena Lagushonkova

Lena Lagushonkova was born in Stanytsia Luhanskand studied at the History Faculty of the Taras Shevchenko National University in Luhansk. Her work to date comprises eight plays, which have been performed at theatres in Kyiv, Kharkiv and Odesa. She works with the Young Theatre and the PostPlay Theatre, co-curates projects for the National Association of Theatre Activists of Ukraine, and is the co-founder of the Theatre of Playwrights in Kyiv. She recounts stories about life in the Ukraine, setting these against a backdrop of the violent changes that have taken place in the country since the 1990s, including the Maidan Uprising and the occupation of Eastern Ukraine. Using fragments of everyday life, Lagushonkova's plays quietly and concisely tell of war, poverty and devastation, and are at once comedic and tragic.
