Kriszta Székely

The Hungarian director Kriszta Székely has worked at the Katona József Theater since studying stage directing at the University of Theatre and Film Arts Budapest, focusing primarily on classical material in her productions, including A Doll’s House – Christmas at the Helmers’, Hedda, and Platonov. In 2017/18, she was named Best Director at the National Theatre Festival and received the Hungarian Theatre Critics’ Award in 2018/19. Her productions have toured throughout Europe, including an appearance at the Hamburger Lessingtage in 2018. She is a member of the artistic leadership team of the Katona József Theater and a resident director at the National Theatre in Budapest. Since 2016, she has also taught acting at the University of Theatre and Film Arts. In her artistic work, Székely places great importance on intensive collaboration with the ensemble and artistic team, as well as on contemporary interpretations of classical material, particularly through the questioning and deconstruction of traditional gender roles. The Glass Menagerie is her first production at Schauspiel Stuttgart.
