Katharina Hauter was born in Kaiserlautern and studied at the Bavarian Theatre Academy August Everding in Munich. She was still studying when she joined the ensemble at the Residence Theatre in Munich, where she worked until the summer of 2011. From 2012 to 2018, she was part of the Mannheim National Theatre ensemble. In the late 2000s, Hauter began acting in film and television. In 2014, she was nominated Best Female Actor by the German Cinema New Talent Award for her role in the film Ein Geschenk der Götter (A Godsend). In 2022, she was nominated Best Female Actor in the Canneseries competition for her role in an episode based on Ferdinand von Schirach's anthology Punishment (The Diver, directed by Oliver Hirschbiegel). Hauter became a permanent ensemble member at Schauspiel Stuttgart in the 2018/19 season.
