Luda Tymoshenko

Luda Tymoshenko is a member of Ukrainian PEN, a playwright, screenwriter, co-founder of the Theatre of Playwrights in Kyiv, and holds a doctorate in political science. She was born in 1978 in Derzhavinsk, northern Kazakhstan.
In 2000, she graduated from the Faculty of Philosophy at Ivan Franko National University of Lviv. In 2004, she completed a PhD in philosophy, and in 2013 earned a doctorate in political science. From 2013 to 2022, she taught political science and sociology at the Department of International Relations and Social Sciences at the National University of Life and Environmental Sciences of Ukraine.
In 2013, she wrote her first play, Golden Leggings. Since then, dramatic writing has become a central part of her life and artistic practice. The short film based on the play, directed by Arkadiy Nepytaliuk, received numerous festival awards, including the main prize for “Best Live Action” at the 39th INTERFILM International Short Film Festival Berlin in 2023. Since February 2022, she has been actively involved in the initiative Worldwide Ukrainian Play Readings. She also participated in the Jean-Jacques Rousseau writers’ residency at Akademie Schloss Solitude.
Since spring 2022, she has been an artist in residence at Schauspiel Stuttgart. She is the author of more than 15 plays, staged in over 20 productions at Ukrainian and European theatres. Her texts have been translated into ten languages.
