Sonja Geiger completed a preparatory course in music theory/rhythm and movement at the Zurich University of the Arts before training as a state-certified stage performer in dance, singing, and acting at the Stage School Hamburg. This was followed by many years of engagements at venues including the First Stage Theater Hamburg, Hamburger Engelsaal, and Theater auf Tour. At the same time, she began working at the First Stage Theater as a stage manager, assistant director, and member of the technical crew, while also serving repeatedly as assistant director, performance manager, and stage manager at the Burgfestspiele Bad Vilbel and the Hamburger Engelsaal, as well as at Lichthof Theater, Kammerspiele Wiesbaden, and the Theaterakademie Hamburg.
In 2020, she made her directorial debut at the Hamburger Engelsaal with the world premiere of Hamburg Meets Broadway. In 2023, she directed and staged the revival of Erik Gedeon’s Forever Young at the Burgfestspiele Bad Vilbel. From February 2022 until the end of the 2024/25 season, she worked at Schauspiel Chemnitz as assistant director, performance manager, stage manager, and prompter, while also working there as a director, choreographer, actor, and singer. In Chemnitz, she directed Karin Eppler’s Banana Jane as well as her own adaptation of Maury Yeston’s December Songs as part of the Nachtschicht format. During the 2025 festival season, she conceived, wrote, and directed the world premiere of Shakespeare’s Secret, a theatrical promenade in the castle park for the Burgfestspiele Bad Vilbel. Since the 2025/26 season, she has been working as assistant director and performance manager at Schauspiel Stuttgart.
